MOTI Verified – Your Key to Music Industry Success

Johannesburg, South Africa — September 2024 — Masters Of The Industry (MOTI) proudly announces the launch of its latest educational video series, MOTI Verified, designed to empower African musicians, songwriters, and producers with the tools they need to make money in today’s music business. This series, created in collaboration with the African Leadership Academy (A.L.A), features Grammy Award-winning performing artist and songwriter Nomcebo Zikode, legal expert Palesa Dwaba of Dwaba Attorneys, and branding specialist Tshepang Makofane from ContextAfrica. The series takes nine students through the essential steps of becoming a music business professional, covering key fundamentals often overlooked in the industry.

MOTI founder, Munya Chanetsa, did not want to deliver the same message he’s been sharing for years, so he took a different approach. Rather than continuing to preach the message himself, Munya called on his fellow friends and industry experts—people he views as MOTIs (Masters of the Industry)—to help reinforce these lessons. He believes that hearing directly from those who are doing the work and benefiting from it will have a stronger impact on creators.

MOTI Verified dives into essential topics, such as:

The importance of split sheets, with insights from Grammy Award-winning songwriter and performing artist Nomcebo Zikode, who emphasizes how these agreements protect intellectual property.

Step-by-step demonstrations on how to register with Collection Management Organizations (CMOs) such as SAMRO, RISA, CAPASSO, and SAMPRA, ensuring artists collect all the royalties they’re owed.

Legal insights on the agreements artists need to be aware of and should sign once a song is made, presented and explained by Palesa Dwaba of Dwaba Attorneys.

The value of branding and how to build a recognizable, sustainable artist brand, with the guidance of branding expert Tshepang Makofane.

Press Release: Masters Of The Industry (M.O.T.I) Unveils Groundbreaking New Series: MOTI Verified – Your Key to Music Industry Success

"We can no longer accept that, in 2024, creators aren't collecting royalties, leaving money unclaimed in a black box for someone else to collect. These are funds they should be reinvesting back into their craft. Too many creators are dying broke because they’re not handling the basics. This must stop," said Munya Chanetsa. "This is my cry to the industry—we must make this business sustainable for everyone, whether you're a musician or on the business side. Without mastering the basics, we can't expect financial institutions to take us seriously or invest in our future."

The MOTI Verified series provides literal step-by-step knowledge, addressing feedback from earlier MOTI content that felt too much like a lecture. Each episode focuses on the practical actions creators need to take, including securing split sheets, registering with CMOs, understanding contracts from the moment a song is made, and building a strong brand.

“If you like this content, more will surely come. As we progress as an industry, trust me, there will be much more content like this to help us thrive.”
Munya Chanetsa

The educational videos will be available exclusively on the MOTI Africa website starting on Monday, the 30th of September, 2024.
